The Sr. Proposal Writer position requires at least five years of business writing experience, with substantial experience in developing business proposals together with exposure to technical writing. Proven knowledge, skills and experience must include developing standard templates used as modular frameworks for building out and customizing responses to solicitations. Also, experience developing clear, succinct value propositions which provide a persuasive written description of the offer being made is essential. Similarly, integrating important points and customizing specific language to address the priorities of the prospective customer and business unit on each engagement is central to success. Likewise, the Sr. Proposal Writer must have proven experience working effectively with project teams that could include business developers, technical subject matter experts, project managers, engineers, financial analysts, external alliances, vendors, risk analysts and legal counsel.

Sr. Proposal Writer Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

Reviewing, analyzing, assessing and summarizing solicitation requirements received from Marketing or other internal channels.

  • Collaborating with project teams to prepare compelling response materials including:

o (i) Presentations; (ii) Requests For Information (RFIs); (iii) Invitations to Bid (ITBs); (iv) Requests For Qualifications (RFQs); (v) Requests For Proposals (RFPs); and (vi) other written materials used for internal and external purposes involving sales or business origination opportunities. Among the types of responses prepared are offers to provide (i) commodity electricity; (ii) renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal); (iii) integrated energy management services (energy, demand response services, energy management); (iv) build, own and operate central utility plants; and (v) Business Operations Services (front and back-office services).

  • Coordinating materials, statistics and information with various groups within NRG, including, among others, Marketing Communications, Regulatory, Government Affairs, Supply Chain and Legal. Leading cross-functional team discussions involving solicitation responses.

  • Expanding and maintaining the RFP Team s Content Library by integrating material developed for responses; updating the Content Library based on schedules driven by external financial reporting dates and public announcements (i.e. acquisitions, divestitures, new market entry, product or service offerings).

  • Reviewing materials received from bid notification services and redirecting to appropriate areas within NRG based on the type of product or service being sought.

  • Assisting business development and sales teams customize presentations and fact sheets for use in sales presentations.

  • Researching and fact checking data and information to ensure consistency in solicitation responses and publicly released information in other company communications.

  • Consolidating, editing, conforming, and integrating modular responses from individual contributors into a customized response.

  • Proofreading, and performing quality assurance of written product to ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency with external communication standards. Focusing and delivering material that is error free through attention to detail.

  • Producing graphics, diagrams and illustrations for proposal material and reviewing with Brand & Marketing.

  • Ensuring solicitation responses are in compliance with all requestor instructions, delivered in a timely manner, and conform to approval protocols.

  • Multi-tasking in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, as well as the proven ability to quickly adapt to shifting priorities and workflow.

Education:

  • Bachelor s degree in English, Journalism or Communications required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of professional writing experience required.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), strong project management experience/skills and the ability to maintain composure under pressure.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio and other database applications.

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign desktop publishing software desired but not mandatory.

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop software desired but not mandatory.

  • Experience responding to federal government solicitations desired but not mandatory.
