Job Summary:

  • The position involves participation in all financial analysis aspects of asset management and project development, assisting the Asset Management Team in overseeing the commercial and operating activities for the Company s Generation fleet. The primary region of focus will be in supporting the conventional generating facilities in California, although on occasion, the position will also support efforts in both the East and Gulf regions. The Financial Analyst will assist in maximizing the value of existing assets, including operating power plants, real estate, and other tangible and intangible assets owned directly or by partnership. The position will involve increasing levels of responsibility and exposure to business functions across the company.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical support for asset management and business development efforts. Prepare periodic reports to management and/or lenders and assist with budgeting and profit and loss reporting on existing assets consistent with overall reporting requirements.

  • Perform complex financial analyses and project evaluations for assets throughout the NRG portfolio; perform due diligence and make recommendations regarding revenue enhancement proposals, major projects and capital investments, asset acquisitions, and asset recovery plans.

  • Construct analytical models for Asset Directors in support of asset optimization initiatives throughout the region.

  • Support preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses for operating assets and develop recovery plans as necessary.

  • Coordinate with support groups, use existing tools such as SAP, Hyperion, PI, PowerGADS, Power SAM, and other systems, develop and maintain analytic tools to help increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the asset management function.

  • Work with commercial operations and settlements to support bidding, scheduling and financial settlement to optimize the value of existing assets.

  • Work closely with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and Financial Planning & Analysis teams

  • Understand the commercial terms; provide analysis and routine and ad hoc reporting required in the day-to-day administration of tolling and capacity contracts for existing assets.

  • Assist in the analysis and negotiation of amendments, modifications, operating procedures, and letter agreements regarding assets as necessary.

  • Analyze and assist in planning and administration of the rates and terms for essential services, including auxiliary power, water, waste water and waste management.

  • Based on knowledge of operating assets and contracting, support origination and assist in bidding and negotiating Resource Adequacy and tolling contracts for existing assets.

  • Understand the markets and work with regulatory affairs to pursue policies that advance company interests and maximize the value of its generation assets.

  • Work closely with Plant Operations to understand the operation, maintenance and planned capital expenditures for each facility to support the Company s asset optimization, budgeting and strategic decision making process.

  • Prepare regular status reports, and other presentations necessary to manage the NRG portfolio of assets.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to perform effectively in a team environment, and work well with others inside and outside the NRG system. It is particularly important that the candidate be able to work effectively with other members of NRG s operations support functions, management and executives. This position requires the ability to work overtime (including availability for occasional work on weekends) with little or no advance notice and will require up to 25% travel annually.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business or equivalent with relevant experience. Master s degree preferred

Required

  • Three to five years of experience in a business (accounting withtreasury experience) budgeting, trading, and/or financial analysis) function or similar experience in an energy operations environment.

  • Excellent technical ability with computer systems proficiency with programming in Excel (e.g., macros, visual basic, pivot tables), and using Word and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with competitive energy markets.

  • Working knowledge of accounting, budgeting and financial analysis.

  • Excellent quantitative, problem solving and written skills.

  • Superior interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure with strict deadlines.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements and quickly bring assignments to completion.

  • Act with complete integrity and use discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information.

  • Display good business judgement, willingness to take responsibility and initiative to make decisions within scope of responsibility applying critical thinking to a wide variety of topics.

Preferred:

  • Strong Excel financial modeling skills are highly desirable.
