Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, directs the operation of the Station on a shift in the production of electricity in a safe, uninterrupted, environmentally sound and efficient manner to meet market demands.
Ensures the safety of all employees through effective implementation of the NRG Safety Program.
Responsible for station security on an off shift basis. Directs and supervises the operation of boilers, turbines, generators and related auxiliary equipment on their shift.
Coordinates with Power Marketing the production of electrical power including hourly loading, unit start-ups, shutdowns, etc.
Provides ancillary services to the ISO-NE as requested by Power Marketing and/or the ISO.
Analyzes troubleshoots and corrects plant operating problems that arise from shift to shift which could affect safety, environment, reliability, and efficiency.
Ensures all operating problems are clearly described in sufficient detail to expedite repairs.
Coordinates work with maintenance and technical departments, both outage and non-outage.
Provides training on shift to ensure operators are competent in the performance of their job duties.
Prepares daily reports of shift operations, facilitates the daily operations morning meetings of management staff and performs operating administrative functions on a shift basis.
Performs human resource functions, including employee evaluation and administering the labor contract.
Sets clear goals and standards for performance and holds assigned personnel accountable to achieve them.
This is a rotating shift position with holidays and vacations built into the schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.
Associates Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Technology. In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience.
New York City High-Pressure Stationary Engineers License or the equivalent. In lieu of the license, must havethe ability to obtain within 18 months after hire.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practical application of fossil station operations.
Ability to determine facts, analyze information, and make decisions accordingly with respect to generating station operations.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of station organization.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verballyand in writing
Must have a working knowledge of personal computers and applications.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*
Must be self-motivated with a broad background in power plant operations
Must have a working knowledge of relevant codes, environmental regulations and applicable OSHA and NRG safety rules and regulations.
The Operations Supervisor must be capable of working and interacting with other plant personnel, contractors, governmental agencies, etc.
Must have technical expertise in plant systems and cycles with proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
